How Did You Become a Yoga Teacher

When and how did you get into yoga ?

My yoga journey began roughly twenty years ago and it was a natural progression from years of dance. One of my initial responses to a regular yoga practice is that I loved how it made me feel brave. Not long after I began discovering resources within me that provided me with the tools to meet some of lifes most difficult challenges.

What made you do a teacher training in San Diego and at what point of your life was this?

About eight or nine years ago (at the young age of 50), I decided to embark upon a yoga teacher training. Simply, I was looking to deepen my practice and that seemed like a nice way to do it. As I progressed through the training I was complimented by my teachers and I thought, “hmm….maybe I could teach this since I love it so much!”

What’s your favorite thing to teach and why?

Alignment for sure. I like the idea of knowing that through alignment principles I’m able to deepen my yoga practice safely. There’s just something about having a solid foundation that allows us to grow confidently.

What in your opinion is the most important quality of a good teacher

Compassion for self and others. I also feel its important for teachers to remember how frightening coming to a yoga studio can be for students (both new and advanced). It’s our job to welcome them, help them overcome their fears and support them in being part of a yoga community.

What would you say to those people who say they are too busy and too tight for yoga?

Just try it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Why do you love yoga?

Most definitely because because it offers me balance, a sense of calm and courage that supports me through challenging and difficult times.

What’s your favorite quote?

When asked what gift he wanted for his birthday the yogi replied : I wish no gifts, only presence.

Linda teaches some of the best Hatha classes in San Diego. Her Slow Flow style is great for students of all ages and levels. Linda is truly an inspiration to us all. Come take her class an see why she’s so popular at Buddhi Yoga! Linda will also be sharing her knowledge as a a head teacher for the yoga training coming up in January. We love you Linda!
